[edit]Old Slavic name from Russian Добры́ня (Dobrýnja), reflecting Proto-Slavic *dobryni (“bringer of virtue”). Morphologically equivalent to до́бър (dóbǎr, “good”) + -иня (-inja).
In Bulgarian, the name is mostly encountered in the context of Добри́ня Ники́тич (Dobrínja Nikítič) - a mythological character from East Slavic legends based on the historical figure Dobrynya (a maternal uncle of Vladimir Sviatoslavich).
