Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic Вѣра (Věra), from Old Church Slavonic вѣра (věra, faith, belief), a calque of Ancient Greek Πίστις (Pístis), from πῐ́στῐς (pĭ́stĭs, faith), analogous to English Faith. Compare Любо́в (Ljubóv) and Наді́я (Nadíja).
