φάψ
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]The formation is similar to other bird names, such as γύψ (gúps, “vulture”) and σκώψ (skṓps, “owl”). The word is clearly related to φάσσα (phássa, “pigeon”) and thus Pre-Greek.
