τύφη
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *tū́pʰā, often regarded as cognate with Latin tuber (“truffle”), English tuft and Old Norse þúfa (“mound”), all from Proto-Indo-European *tewh₂- (“to swell”). However the meaning of the Greek word is sufficiently different to render its connection with the other words purely hypothetical.
