[edit]Inherited from Byzantine Greek τσούζω (tsoúzō, “to hurt, to burn as punishment”), from τσούκζω (tsoúkzō), possibly from Ancient Greek σίζω (sízō, “to hiss, to sizzle, especially of the noise made by plunging hot metal into cold water”).[1]
