τρυφάλεια

Ancient Greek

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

A derivative of φάλος (phálos, crest of a helmet). Hesychius says τρυ- (tru-) is for τρι- (tri-, three); Liddell & Scott deny this but do not say what it does represent. Cunliffe says it represents τετρα- (tetra-, four).
