τέναγος
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]According to Beekes, from a Proto-Indo-European *tenh₂g- (“shallow water”), though he adduces no other descendants, doubting connections with Latvian tigas (“deep spot between two shallow places”) (< *tn̥h₂g-).[1] Others have connected Latin stāgnum (“pond, standing water”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
