Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *skʰḗmə, from Proto-Indo-European *sǵʰ-éh₁-mn̥, formed from the zero grade of Proto-Indo-European *seǵʰ- (“to hold”), synchronically corresponding to ἔχω (ékhō, “I have”) + -μα (-ma).[1]
