[edit]From πολυ- (polu-, “many”) + τρητός (trētós, “perforated”) (from Proto-Hellenic *trētós, from Proto-Indo-European *terh₁- (“to rub”), compare τείρω (teírō, “I wear out, afflict”)).[1]
