From περι- (peri-, “around”) +‎ ὤγανον sg (ṓganon, “spokes of the wagon wheel”).

1. felloes or spokes of a wheel

   Synonym: ἐπίσωτρονα (epísōtrona)

   • [5th c. C.E., Hesychius of Alexandria, Γλώσσαι, Π:

     περιώγανα· ἐπίσσωτρα. οἱ δὲ τὰς κνημίας αἳ περιπήγνυνται ταῖς ἁμάξαις

     periṓgana; epíssōtra. hoi dè tàs knēmías haì peripḗgnuntai taîs hamáxais

     periṓgana: felloes. spokes by which wagons are fixed]
