From πᾰρεντῐ́θημῐ (parentíthēmi, I put in beside, mix up) +‎ -σις (-sis), from πᾰρᾰ- (para-, beside) + ἐν (en, in) + τῐ́θημῐ (títhēmi, I put, place).
