Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *niďďō, from Proto-Indo-European *nigʷ-ye-, from *neygʷ- (“to wash”). Compare Proto-Germanic *nikwes, Old English nicor, German Nix.

- to wash the hands or feet of another
- to purge, cleanse
