Etymology
[edit]From Ottoman Turkish معدنوس (maydanos), from Arabic مَعْدُونِس (maʕdūnis); ultimately from Ancient Greek μακεδονήσιον (makedonḗsion, “Macedonian, Macedonian herb”).
