Etymology
[edit]Unknown. The correct form is uncertain. Perhaps connected with μαρμαίρω (marmaírō, “to flash, sparkle, gleam”); in this case, it would properly mean "gleaming, sparkling". See also μαρίλη (marílē, “embers of charcoal”).
