Etymology

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀναχανιάζω (anakhaniázō) -also form ἀχανιάζω (akhaniázō),[1] with deletion of initial unstressed vowel and dissimilation of /n-n/ > /l-n/. from the Hellenistic use of Ancient Greek ἀναχαίνω (anakhaínō), form of ἀναχάσκω (anakháskō, open the mouth) < ἀνα- (ana-) + χάσκω (kháskō, gape, yawn) + -ιάζω (-iázo).[2] Italiot Greek αναχαννίζω.[3]
