[edit]Contracted form of λαγώειος (lagṓeios, “of a hare”), from λαγώς (lagṓs, “hare”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)leh₁g- (“weak, feeble”). Compare Latin laxus, Sanskrit लङ्ग (laṅga, “lame”), Proto-Germanic *lakaną.
