Etymology

[edit]

The ending in "-βος" is found also in κάκκαβος (kákkabos), κάναβος (kánabos) and σίττυβος (síttubos). The noun is probably related to κόλλιξ (kóllix, type of bread) and κολλύρα (kollúra, cake, tablet). The word is no doubt Pre-Greek.
