[edit]The element "-σσ-", as well as the technical meaning, points to a Pre-Greek origin. Previously the word has been compared with Old English crocca (“crock”), Dutch kruik (“jug”) and Middle Irish croccán. Note also Old Armenian կարաս (karas).
