Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]For the root vocalism, it is possible to compare πιλνός (pilnós, “grey”) beside πελιός (peliós, “livid”). Formally, this word is a reminiscent of κελαινός (kelainós, “dark”), but ultimately there is no convincing etymology.
