Etymology
[edit]Explained as an Aeolic compound "καλα-ϝροψ" by Schwyzer and Chantraine, but with unexplained second member. The comparison of the first member with Sanskrit शल (śala, “spear, staff”) or with κλάω (kláō, “to break”) must be forgotten. According to Beekes, it is a typical Pre-Greek word.
