Etymology

From Byzantine Greek ζωγραφίζω (zōgraphízō), from Ancient Greek ζωγραφῶ (zōgraphô), ζωγραφέω (zōgraphéō) with metaplasm of -ίζω (-ízo) onto the stem form ζωγραφησ- (zōgraphēs-).[1] The Ancient Greek term is from ζωγράφος (zōgráphos, painter) +‎ -έω (-éō).
