[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *gʷewH- (“to call, invoke, cry”); probably related to βοάω (boáō, “to shout”) via a paradigmatic split. Cognate with Proto-Germanic *kawjaną (“to call, name”), Proto-Slavic *gȍvorъ (“talk”), Sanskrit जोगुवे (joguve, “to speak out loudly”).[1]
