[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Bezzenberger connects the word with Latvian murdēt (“to boil up”) and Lithuanian mùrdyti (“to treat something by shaking it in water”). However, this is uncertain, as the basic regular sound laws seem to prohibit a connection.[1]
