[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *gʷəskō, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷm̥-sḱé-ti, from *gʷem- (“to step”) with -σκω (-skō). Cognate with Sanskrit गच्छति (gácchati). Compare the alternative present βαίνω (baínō).
