[edit]Borrowed from Old Persian 𐎶𐎰𐎡𐏁𐎫 (m-θ-i-š-t /Maθištaʰ/, literally “greatest, supreme”). Might originally have been a title maθišta pasā tanūm (“the greatest after myself (the king)”).[1]
