[edit]Etymology
[edit]Of unclear origin.[1] Has been compared to Old Armenian շաղախ (šałax, “clay, mud, mortar”).[2] Other theories relate the word to Old English hwelian (“to suppurate”);[3] in this case, compare the cognates listed at Latin colostra (“colostrum (first milk)”).
