închega

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Romanian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Probably from a Vulgar Latin verb *inclagāre (compare Aromanian ncljeg, ncljigari), from metathesis of *incoāglāre (compare Romansch inquaglier), from *incoāgulāre, intensive of Latin coagulāre (compare French cailler, Italian cagliare). Alternatively, simply from Vulgar Latin *clagāre < coāgulāre, with the prefix în- added later in Romanian (and therefore a doublet of coagula, a borrowing).
