Equivalent to av (“off”) +‎ stad (“place (archaic)”).

1. (dated) away (from some place, and often by implication to somewhere else)

   Invånarna i byn gick åstad till grannbyarna

   The inhabitants of the village walked away from their village to the neighboring villages

   Imorgon far vi åstad

   Tomorrow we're traveling away

   Men om din broder försyndar sig, så gå åstad och förehåll honom det enskilt.

   Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go [away] and tell him his fault between thee and him alone (Matthew 15:18)
