Compound of ägg (egg) +‎ -a- +‎ kaka (cake) The interfix -a-, from a merge of the obsolete genitive plural -a and (likewise obsolete) feminine genitive singular -ar, is traditionally used to form compounds in southern and western Swedish, cf. ålagille, lealös and nattamat.
