Compounded from тры (try) +‎ дзе́сяць (dzjésjacʹ), literally three tens. Compare Old Church Slavonic триѥ дєсѧтє (trije desęte). Cognates include Ukrainian три́дцять (trýdcjatʹ) and Russian три́дцать (trídcatʹ).
