[edit]Probably borrowed from Spanish zumaque (“sumac”), ultimately from Andalusian Arabic and Arabic سُمَّاق (summāq, “sumac”), from Aramaic and Classical Syriac ܣܘܡܩܐ (summāqā, “red, sumac”).
