Etymology

From Middle High German zucken, unumlauted Upper German variant of Middle High German zücken, from Old High German zuchen, from Proto-West Germanic *tukkijan. For the Upper German blocking of umlaut by /ppf/, /tts/, /kk(x)/ confer also nutzen vs. nützen or drucken vs. drücken.
