Etymology

Presumably from Proto-North Halmahera, but not through Ternate. Compare Tidore yobo, Pagu yabos, and Tobelo l̄oboho, all meaning "swollen". Possibly influenced by a similar term; compare Tobelo l̄abo (wounded), Sahu nyaboto (wound).
