ynski
Appearance
Faroese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Danish ønske, ynske, from the verb ønske, ynske from Old Norse œskja, from Proto-Germanic *wunskijaną. Forms without -n- are attested in Old Danish yske (verb) and usk (noun) (< Old Norse ósk), and -n- seems to have been reintroduced into these words under the influence of Middle Low German (compare German Low German wönschen (“wish”, verb), Plautdietsch Wensch (“wish”, noun)).
