Prepositional phrase

[edit]

yn ei arddegau

  1. teenage, in his teenage years

Usage notes

[edit]

Rather than use a noun corresponding to English “teenager”, Welsh will often reword and use this prepositional phrase instead.

pan oeddwn yn fy arddegau
when I was a teenager
(literally, “when I was in my teenage years”)
pobl ifanc yn eu harddegau
teenagers
(literally, “young people in their teenage years”)

Nevertheless, the word arddegyn (teenager) has existed since the 1960s.
