[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *umbikaʀʀjan, *umbikaiʀwijan, from Proto-Germanic *umbikazjaną, *umbikaizwijaną, equivalent to ymb- + ċierran. Cognate with Old Frisian umbekêra, Old High German umbikēren (whence German umkehren).
