Uncertain, maybe related to Middle Low German wrimpen, Low German wrümpeln, Dutch frommelen (variant of dialectal wrommelen, itself maybe a variant from wrongelen). May also be related to Middle Low German wrimmen, Modern Low German wrimmen and wrimmeln, Dutch wriemelen, Danish and Norwegian vrimle, archaic Swedish vrimla. See also wrummeln and wrimmeln.
