working drawing (plural working drawings)

  1. A technical drawing or plan to scale which serves as a guide for the construction or manufacture of something such as a building or machine.
    • 1941 October, “Notes and News: Stroudley's 2-4-2 Designs”, in Railway Magazine, page 472:
      But in neither case had the preparations proceeded beyond contemplation; no working drawings of any kind been prepared.
    • 1964 July, “XP64: New Standard Carriage Project”, in Modern Railways, page 2:
