[edit]From Proto-Algonquian *wesaᐧwyaᐧwi (“to be yellow”). Cognate with Ojibwe ozaawaa (“it is yellow”), Mohegan-Pequot wisôwáyuw (“it is yellow”), Massachusett weesóe (“it is yellow”).
