[edit]Etymology
[edit]Many etymologies have been proposed. The leading theories find its roots in Maghrebi Arabic varieties, such as from Moroccan Arabic واش (wāš) (an interrogative particle), or through ellipsis of Algerian Arabic واش راك (wāš rāk, “what's up?”). Certain speakers and online dictionaries like L'internaute propose wesh as a "disformation" of French ouais, though this theory is much less popular.

Noun
[edit]wesh m (plural weshs)
- (especially reduplicated, as in wesh-wesh) Someone tending to use French slang very frequently
- J’ai déjà discuté avec des weshs dans les TEC...c’est carrément un rôle, leur weshitude. Et quel autre but aurait un tel rôle que celui de chopper [les femmes]? Et ça marche. Donc en fait, ils sont malins, faut pas s’en moquer!
- I already talked with the weshs in the TEC... it’s quite a role, their wesh-y-ness. And what other purpose would such a role have than to pick up women? And it works. So actually, they’re cunning, you can’t make fun of them!
