[edit]From *wíla- (“pass, gap?”) + -tho (“at”). Cognate with Picuris pʼį̀nwéltha (“Picuris Pueblo”) (literally “mountain pass place” although this decomposition is now opaque).

[edit]- Felicia Trager's translation is “Picuris Pueblo”, but Edward Curtis recorded a translation “at the pass”. Curtis also obtained a similar translation for the cognate term in the Picuris language.
