vrap
Appearance
Albanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Albanian *awa-rapa, derivative of *repa (“to strip off, tear off”) (modern rrjep). For sense development, compare Ancient Greek ἔδρᾱν (édrān, “ran away”), from δέρω (dérō, “skin, flay”).[1] More at rrjep. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *werb- (“to turn, wind”). Compare Ancient Greek ῥάπτω (rháptō), Latin repens (“sudden”), Czech vráp (“wrinkle”), Lithuanian verpiù (“to spin”), Middle English wrappen (“to wind”).[2]
