[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Albanian *wānti, a participle in *-nti,[1] or from *wānā, reflecting Proto-Indo-European *h₁weh₂- (“to lack, be empty; to strive, to wish for, to love”). Compare Ancient Greek εὖνις (eûnis, “stolen; looted, lack, be short of”), Armenian ունայն (unayn, “empty, bare, lacking”), Latin vanus (“bare, lacking, empty, void, vacant”), Old Norse vanr (“lacking”).
