French
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Italian volteggiare.
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]voltiger
- (intransitive) to flit, flutter
- (figurative) to flit about (a place) (en), flutter about (a place)
- (figurative) to get kicked out, chucked out
- (Louisiana) to fly, to take a plane
Conjugation
[edit]This is a regular -er verb, but the stem is written voltige- before endings that begin with -a- or -o- (to indicate that the -g- is a "soft" /ʒ/ and not a "hard" /ɡ/). This spelling change occurs in all verbs in -ger, such as neiger and manger.
