voivodi
Appearance
Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *vojevoda (“army leader; duke; warlord”). Likely a recent learned borrowing, perhaps from French voïvode, German Woiwode or Swedish vojvod, as evidenced by the final vowel and the voiced stop /d/, which appears nominally only in recent loan words.
