- A vote that is held by members calling out aye or nay, used in cases where result is not contested or at least not close and a count is not needed to determine if the motion passes.
- 1980 August 16, Bennett Klein, “House Passes Anti-Gay Clause”, in Gay Community News, volume 8, number 5, page 1:
- The anti-gay amendment was initially defeated in the House on a voice vote. But it was later approved by a large margin on a roll call vote, suggesting that many congressmen feared negative reactions from constituents in an election year.
