Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]villi (“wild”) + kissa (“cat”)
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]villikissa
- wild cat, Felis silvestris
- (colloquial) feral cat (domestic cat returned to the wild)
Usage notes
[edit]- A feral cat may also be called villiintynyt kissa in order to avoid confusion with Felis silvestris. Neither of the two is a constant member of the Finnish fauna. The feral cats usually die during their first winter of freedom.
