[edit]From Proto-Finnic *vik'at'ëh, possibly from Baltic *vikapteš, derived from the same verb as Latvian izkapts. Cognates include Estonian vikat, Karelian viikateh, Livonian vikārt, Ludian vikateh, Veps vikateh, vikatez and Votic vikahtõ.
