From local Medieval Latin vereda (main road), perhaps from Vulgar Latin verēdus (light breed of horse), from Gaulish *werēdos, ultimately from Proto-Celtic *uɸoreidos (compare Welsh gorwydd (horse)). Cognate with Portuguese Breia and Spanish vereda (path).
