[edit]Borrowed from German Walache, from Russian волох (volox), from Proto-Slavic *volxъ, itself of Germanic origin. Used mostly as an exonym by other peoples for Romanian or Eastern Romance-speaking peoples in the Middle Ages. Compare român for the endonym. See also Aromanian vlah, Megleno-Romanian Vlași. Doublet of vlah and olah.
